Dog DNA Test Now Detects 157 Breeds

Mars Veterinary (TM) is now detecting 157 breeds with its mixed-breed DNA analysis. The newly updated Wisdom Panel MX covers 153 of the 158 American Kennel Club (AKC) registered dogs plus four breeds found on the AKC’s Foundation List.
How accurate is this test at detecting the breed of your mutt? Wisdom Panel MX says it can pinpoint the breeds with an increased accuracy level of 90 percent, higher than those administered by cheek swabs.
Introduced last fall, Wisdom Panel MX doesn’t rely on a cheek swab test like many dog DNA tests administered at home but uses a small blood sample the vet will draw. The simple blood test can be performed as a new puppy vet visit or as part of your adult dog’s annual vaccination check-up. The benefits are many; besides satisfying your own curiosity, knowing the breed of your dog can help you better know what activity level suits your dog.

After purchase, you’ll take the test kit to your vet for test administration. When you receive the results, you’re encouraged to visit the vet again to learn more about your dog’s genetic background and work on an extended care plan for your dog’s breeds.
If your dog had a Mars test administered from September 22, 2008 through October 20, 2008 and the report changed based on the new breeds added, you’ll receive a free updated report automatically. If your dog was tested before September 22, 2008, you can email customercare@marsveterinary.com to request a new analysis. If any of the new breeds appear, you can receive a new report for $25.
