FIDO Awards Coming to Nick at Nite

Sunday, Oct. 5 will mark the First Annual Worldwide FIDO Awards. Televised on Nick at Nite, the one-hour show will be hosted by actor/comedian Fred Willard (of “Best in Show” fame). The show has six categories ranging from “Cutest Dog” to “Best Trick” to “Dog/Owner Look Alike.” The show is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT).

One dog will also be crowned the 2008 Worldwide Fido winner and one will receive a special Hero award for the services he has performed for humans. User videos entered in the contest will also be featured. One of the judges is dog trainer-to-the-stars Tamar Geller.

The semifinalists include:

“Cutest Dog”

  • Big Mac (Bulldog) from Palmdale, California
  • Bella (Maltese/Yorkie Mix) from Colonia, New Jersey
  • Konan (Maltese) from Glenarden, Maryland
  • Samson (French bulldog) from San Francisco, California

“Best Trick”

  • Gabe, a toilet-flushing, skateboarding Bulldog from Bellingham, Washington
  • Dazzle, a milk-bone flipping Border collie from Renton, Washington
  • Petie, a dancing Chihuahua/Mutt mix from Pflugerville, Texas
  • Jesse, a jump roping, stair-climbing Jack Russell from Avondale, Arizona

“Best Voice”

  • Coda, an opera-singing Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix from Grand Prairie, Texas
  • Sunny, a Schubert-humming Golden Retriever from Ocean Beach, California
  • Fred, Beagle singing the blues from San Diego, California
  • Pugsly, a Pug singing “I Love You” from Calabasas, California

“Owner Look-Alike”

  • Safy (Standard Schnauzer) from Miami, Florida
  • Kaine Vom Feuerspiel (German Shepherd) from Avondale, Arizona
  • Duke King Pierre (Cocker Spaniel/Lab mix) from The Colony, Texas
  • Piper (Yorkshire Terrier/Chihuahua Mix) from Dexter, Missouro

“Most Outrageous”

  • Kate, an extreme, ladder-climbing Labrador Retriever from Harvest, Alabama
  • Tommy, a deep diving Labrador Retriever from Sewell, New Jersey
  • Camilla Guardama, a skate boarding Chihuahua from Kennesaw, Georgia
  • Sugar Rodriguez, a cat-boxing Pug/Toy Fox Terrier) from Santa Rosa, California

“Best Dressed”

  • Hurkulez, a tuxedo clad Pug from Valencia, California
  • Jasmine, a 70’s hippy clad Golden Retriever from Elko, Nevada
  • Phoebe Buffay, a poolside boxer in a bikini from Pasadena, Texas
  • Maygen Kelly Murray, an Australian Shepherd dressed for a Sunday drive from Lexington, Kentucky
