Spoiler alert! If you plan to watch the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship on Animal Planet and the Discovery Channel on Saturday, January 31, 2009, we’re about to tell you the Best in Show winner so go fetch another story and don’t continue with this one!

If you don’t mind knowing the winner, her name shouldn’t come as a surprise in a way: pointer Cookieland Seasyde Hollyberry. The pointer (you can just call her Holly) came away with the Best in Show title and a $50,000 prize. Holly was the winner last month of the Purina National Dog Show, broadcast on Thanksgiving Day.

The event was held December 13 and 14 in Long Beach. The AKC/Eukanuba National Championship is one of the top dog shows in the world and includes the AKC Agility Invitational and the AKC National Obedience Invitational. In all, nearly 3,000 dogs try to obtain the title of “top dog” and more than $225,000 in prize money.

Show Times:

  • The AKC/Eukanuba National Championship will be simulcast on Animal Planet and the Discovery Channel on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009 from 8-11 p.m. (ET/PT).
  • Highlights from the AKC Agility Invitational will air on Animal Planet on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009 at 8 p.m. (ET/PT).
