Would you give up that cup of premium coffee to save money for your dog’s care? How about spa treatments? What else?
A recent study by the American Kennel Club showed that in this difficult economy, dog lovers are willing to sacrifice those daily luxuries to take care of their four-legged companion.
What the Survey Showed:
Surveying over 1,000 people on www.akc.org, the club found that:
- over 96% of respondents that liked gourmet coffee would give up their latte to save money for their dog’s expenses
- 97% said they’d skip massages or spa treatments in order to afford a vet bill
- nearly 79% would cancel a teeth whitening appointment so their dog could have his annual teeth cleaning
- over 69% would cut back on gifts for their friends or extended family before they would skimp on holiday gifts for their dog
- almost 9% would cut back on gifts for their spouse before cutting back on presents for their dog
- 67% would cancel their travel plans if they couldn’t afford boarding for their dog
- 65% would regularly eat Ramen noodles before they would skimp on their dog’s high quality food
- 59% would perm or color their own hair in the kitchen sink in order to keep their pooch’s grooming appointment
- 97% said they’d have more meals at home
- 97% said they’d cancel a gym membership
- 50% said they’d cancel cable or satellite service
- 94% planned to trim back clothes spending
- 89% would put off those home remodeling plans
- 88% said they’d skip buying a new car or buy one that’s less expensive
The one luxury that dogs and their owners might play tug of war over? Internet access. over 70% of those who responded said they couldn’t give up their web addiction.
How about you? What are you willing to give up…or what have you already given up…for your furry friend?
