Best Friends Animal Society and The Humane Society of the United States met at a summit in Las Vegas to discuss the handling of pit bulls seized in dogfighting raids. As a result, the Humane Society of the US now has a new policy that recommends that all dogs seized from fighting operations be professionally evaluated to determine suitable candidates for adoption. The HSUS will be updating its law enforcement training manual and other materials to reflect this change in policy.

Here’s a touching video from Best Friends Animal Society about the importance of treating these dogs as individuals, regardless of the horrors they may have been put through in the past.
