Yesterday we attended the first day of the Weiner Dog Races, a two-day event in Buda, Texas (located just south of Austin). The annual festival, now in its 12th year, includes plenty of family fun from a fair to a barbecue cookoff but the biggest draw are its smallest visitors: dachshunds. Dachshunds take part in two days of races (registration is held at the event and is open to all dachshunds) to raise money for the local Lions Club.
The event featured morning and afternoon races (with winners moving on to Sunday’s semifinals and finals). Crowds filled the stands and surrounded the racetrack:

Dogs take their places inside the chutes (the front of which is fencing) :
Then their parents head to the other end of the track, most with squeaky toy in hand:

The event also included many arts and crafts booths (many featuring dog-related items):
