This Saturday, the Smithsonian Channel will be premiering a new show called “Unleashed: A Dogumentary” that takes a look at Santa Barbara, California’s Big Dog Parade.
From dogs in tuxedos to dogs on floats, this documentary looks at the longtime event which featured well over 1,000 dogs annually, so many, in fact, it was called the country’s largest costumed canine event.
Sadly, the Big Dog Parade will be enjoyed only on film this year; due to today’s economic times, the parade is not being held in 2009 although the planners hope to bring it back in 2010.
As a tribute to all the four-legged parade participants that enjoyed previous parades, be sure to have a look at this fun documentary.

I have seen Unleashed when it was part of the Santa Barbara film festival. What an absolutely WONDERFUL dogumentary, carefully crafted, beautifully edited and required watching for all pet lovers. I hope it runs again and again and that the Santa Barbara community finds a way to return the parade to their schedule of visitor events.
