What: National Geographic Channel’s Dog Whisperer sixth season premier: “Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan: How to Raise the Perfect Dog”
When: Premier Friday, October 9, 2009 9 PM ET/PT
Now launching its sixth season on the National Geographic Channel, the premier episode of Dog Whisperer begins with a concept very different than its traditional format. Rather than rehabilitating dogs, Cesar Millan follows four puppies from their selection as part of the Dog Whisperer pack to their adolescence. The episode, a companion to Millan’s newest book, How to Raise the Perfect Dog, educates dog owners in how, rather than fix problems that arise in their dog, to prevent these behaviors in the first place.
The episode begins with the selection of four puppies of different breeds: Junior, a pit bull; Marley (later renamed Blizzard), a rescue Lab; Angel, a miniature schnauzer; and Mr. President, an English Bulldog.
For eight months, the three-time Emmy-nominated dog expert works with the puppies dealing with issues such as overexcitement, mealtime, housebreaking, socialization, neutering, and nurturing each dog’s own breed characteristics.
This special episode, like the companion book, is an excellent resource for anyone (whether first-time or longtime dog owner) considering the addition of a puppy to their family.
In Their Words: “I realize I may actually be putting myself out of business with this episode,” joked Cesar Millan. “But I wanted to adopt four different breeds and work with them in my pack from the very beginning, showing that if you prevent bad behaviors in puppyhood, you can steer clear of canine nightmares down the road.”
