Since today is Black Friday and Cyber Monday is right around the corner, we decided to focus on some of the largest pet retail fan pages for today’s Facebook Friday–and we had to also include the fan page for a special dog movie set for broadcast Sunday night. Based on the novel of the same name by Greg Kincaid, this television movie with a heartwarming holiday theme will be broadcast November 29, 2009 on CBS. A dog photo contest is also being sponsored by Hallmark so look for lots of reader interaction on this busy fan page.

The active fan page for this extensive online store that specializes in pet health products (but has many other pet supplies as well) includes many links to helpful dog-related articles. Watch for fan contests and explore the tabs of this site; one gem we found was the recipe for a doggie birthday cake in the discussions area!
This extensive online pet retailer also has a busy fan page with lots of reader interaction and links to new products as well as FetchDog articles. When you’re on the site, be sure to check out Glenn Close’s blog, “Lively Licks,” where she interviews many pet-loving celebrities who create an online store which donates a percentage of profits to pet charities. (FYI: Through December 23, FetchDog.com is offering free shipping –there’s no minimum order.)
With over 11,000 fans, this page has lots of reader input ranging from fan photos to reader experiences and favorites. Look for special event information such as adoption drives and nutrition workshops to PETCO contests.

I think it's great that the big retailers are offering discounts, etc., and we certainly do our share of patronizing them. There are also some small retailers out there worth supporting, like Olive Green Dog (www.olivegreendog.com), which is offering 15% off through Monday with the code BLACKFRIDAY, and the really small but super service-oriented Lucky Fiona Collars (luckyfiona.blogspot.com, or Lucky Fiona on Etsy), which is having a BOGO sale today (Black Friday) and which often has special collar sales to benefit animal rescues. Just a little shout-out for two of the dogtailers who we support as often as we can.
