Kodak Debuts Pet Eye Retouch

We’ve all taken flash photos that resulted in the dreaded “red eye,” an effect caused by the light reflecting back from the eye’s retina. Correction features in many software imaging programs can remove red eye from the finished photo.
Photos of pets have a similar problem–but pet eyes don’t reflect back as red but as colors that can range from bright green to glaring gold. (The reason is a reflective layer in animal eyes called the tapetum lucidum.) The red correction features in imaging programs won’t work on these varied colors.
But Kodak will soon be debuting a new Pet Eye Retouch feature in its photo kiosks this summer. With pets ranked in the top four of all photographic subjects, Kodak expects plenty of demand for the new feature.
At the April BlogPaws conference, we had the chance to use the new Pet Eye feature. It’s fast and easy to use as you select the eye and change the color then print out your finished picture–no more demon-eyed dog photos!
