I have 2 favorites-true stories of dogs & humor (even better if it is a humorous true story)! One of my favorite books is “The Art of Racing in the Rain” by Garth Stein. The book is told through Enzo (the dog)’s perspective. I laughed & cried. Amazing book-highly recommended!

  • George & Seamus’ Mom (Kim)

Humorous dog stories only for me — I can’t handle the sad ones!!

My favorite dog book is Mystical Dogs, which is a compilation of stories about the things our dogs teach us.

  • Theresa

Love most dog books, but humorous memoirs are my favorite!

  • Alicia Muphy

Old yeller is my favorite book and read it a few time with my son or any book on Pomeranian’s.

  • Valerie

My favorite dog books are self help books. Before I adopted my puppy I read Cesar Milan’s “How to Raise the Perfect Pup” and Beth Ostrosky Stern’s book “Oh My Dog”. I never had a dog before, and these books were extremely helpful.

  • Chloe’s mom(DJ)

I love all the dog books but a particular favorite is one I read many times as a child-The Fireside Book of Dogs. It contained many stories about famous dogs such as Greyfriars Bobby, etc. It’s probably out of print now but I always loved that book.

  • C.G.

I’m so glad to see you read Cesar’s book! I really need to get it just to read the info. (I lost my 13 yr old yellow lab Son, Sep 18th, and I think it’s now my ‘duty’ to try & find a k9 who needs to be rescued in his name. He would do it if he would have lost me is my thought.) So did the book truly help you with your new family member???

  • gina

Jon Katz.. anything by him.. Good reads!

  • Nikola’s Mum (C.G.)

I’m reading a book called A BIG LITTLE LIFE by Dean Koontz of all people. Yes, the horror novelist in usual circles. He’s written a book about his 1st family dog to himself & his wife. They are like me, no children, so adopting pets becomes your family. His book is so great. I lost my ‘Son’ just recently so when I was just browsing @ the book store it almost bit me! I usually read very slow but due to my need to heal, I can’t read enough of it every time I sit down to get in a few pages. My feline kids are very patient with me right now & they know what I’m feeling without question. I’m going to take some other titles from these postings & hope it helps me as well. If anyone has a title for me, please don’t hesitate to share. I’m in some deep pain right now. Any help would be so very appreciated & taken to heart from other dog lovers especially. He was my 1st raised dog from pup to adult so you all get what I’m saying I’m sure. Thanx!

I love pretty much all dog books, but my absolute favourite is The Story of edgar Sawtelle – not sure where that one fits into the types of dog books… My second favourite is Marley & Me, reminds me of my crazy retrievers each time I think about it.

My most favourite dog book is Farley Mowat’s “The Dog Who Wouldn’t Be”. It is a classic book about a dog named Mutt who thinks he is quite human. His escapades are hilarious! I reread it every couple of years because I do so enjoy a good laugh. Thanks for the great contest.
