On Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011, the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship will be broadcast on ABC. This dog show took place in December (don’t worry, we’re not mentioning the winner here if you haven’t already heard!) in Long Beach, California but this weekend marks the television broadcast. Special highlights include junior handlers, AKC Breeder of the Year and AKC Humane Fund Awards for Canine Excellence presentations. (Watch for Surf Dog Ricochet, winner of a canine excellence award; she was DogTipper Dog of the Year!)
This year, six new AKC-recognized breeds are being debuted: the Bluetick Coonhound, Boykin Spaniel, Cane Corso, Icelandic Sheepdog, Leonberger, Redbone Coonhound. In all, 167 dog breeds are featured.
Hosts: Todd Grisham, the lead broadcaster for World Wrestling Entertainment and Fox Soccer Channel’s MLS package, will join AKC’s Assistant Vice President Gina DiNardo for commentary duties.
When: The broadcast is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST/PST and 1 p.m. CST, Jan. 23, 2011.
AKC Virtual Parties: The American Kennel Club is hosting virtual viewing parties on Facebook and Twitter starting at 2 p.m. for the broadcast. Dog lovers are encouraged to stop by to root for their favorites, participate in pre-event trivia, get some behind-the-scenes info on the show and chat with other dog show enthusiasts. In addition, dog clubs will be hosting viewing parties in their hometowns to celebrate the 10th edition of this internationally prestigious show.
Eukanuba Virtual Parties: There’s also a five-hour Facebook party over at the AKC/Eukanuba Facebook Wall or the Eukanuba Wall! The fun starts at 2pm. Eukanuba is also hosting a Twitter party from 2pm-7pm Eastern under the hastag #EukDogShow.
