USA Today and the Rachael Ray Show have announced the launch of the Kindness Challenge, which allows five teens with dreams of building a better tomorrow the opportunity to publicly promote their philanthropic projects. Among the pack of participating youth action organizations– which include education efforts to combat obesity, a free online tutoring system to help underprivileged teens prepare for the SATs, Chemo Duck therapy toy donations for children with cancer, and cupcake donations to brighten the birthdays of people living in homeless shelters– is a non-profit which will touch the hearts of dog devotees.
High school student Adin Lykken combined his passion for pets and pounding the pavement to found Woofin & Hoofin, which shines a spotlight on animal cruelty through an annual 5K and Doggie Dash, with proceeds benefiting the Dupage County Animal Shelter in Wheaton, IL.
Along with the annual racing event (which takes place June 19, 2011 at Newton Park in Glen Ellyn, IL) Woofin & Hoofin is expanding the fundraising fun with Puppy Palooza 2011, a musical event.
The winners of the Kindness Challenged will be announced March 14, 2011 on The Rachael Ray Show and in USA Today. To follow the DoSomething.org alums for the next six weeks as they make a difference in their chosen charities and to cast a vote for your favorite cause in the Kindness Challenge (voting begins February 28th):
