Congratulations to Hickory, named the 2011 Westminster Kennel Club Best in Show! Shown above with Best in Show judge Paolo Dondina and handler Angela Lloyd, Hickory is the first Scottish Deerhound to win the title. Hickory has become what David Frei called recently in a phone interview with DogTipper “the world’s newest single-named celebrity.”
Frei described to us the flurry of activity that the Best in Show dog encounters following the Tuesday night announcement. “We have a lot of fun and the world is ready for us on Wednesday. We’re walking down the street on Wednesday and people want their photos taken with the winning dog.”
Activities that Hickory, like her predecessors, will take part in include a steak served on a silver platter at Sardi’s, ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday morning, and posing atop the Empire State Building. And there’s what Frei says, “we laughingly call our world media tour.” Hickory made the rounds with stops at all the morning shows, Martha Stewart, and more. Below you’ll find an interview with David Frei, Angela Lloyd, and, of course, Hickory on Bloomberg Television’s “Street Smart.”
