For 10 years she portrayed an investigative journalist and television anchor on the classic comedy series Murphy Brown, and now actress Candice Bergen has made headlines as Dogs Deserve Better reveals that the Emmy-winning star has made a donation in support of the non-profit’s possible purchase of Michael Vick’s former Virginia home.
While dog devotees have donated more than $130,000 toward the canine cause, fundraising during the 45-day contract time frame fell far short of the $600,000 needed fulfill the dream of transforming a place of cruelty dubbed the Good Newz Kennel into one of compassion– the Good Newz Rehab Center for tail-waggers who have been tethered by
chains and made prisoners by pens.
Through her support, Ms. Bergen has helped to keep the dream of a new day at the Virginia property alive for animal lovers. Donations from dog lovers are still desperately needed to turn reverie of a Rover haven into reality.
In a show of thanks for donor support, Dogs Deserve Better is giving $50 and $100 restaurant certificates to those who make a donation of $20 or $35, respectively. For an online donation of $10 or more, people who are passionate about pets will receive a Facebook graphic to display, and those who give $100 or more are offered their choice of a free 8X10 American Art print by the organization’s founder, Tamira Thayne. As a special salute to the late Elizabeth Taylor, who held a special place in her heart for the nonprofit, the names of the top 10 donors who contribute
$1,000 or more in honor of the much-missed entertainment icon will appear on a Memory Plaque.
