Hero Dogs in Need of Homes

Seven wartime hero dogs who have saved countless lives now have a new lease on life thanks to SPCA International. Through donations and more than 7,000 signature’s on the organization’s “Wall of Support,” Ivy, Nugget, Nandi, Idle, Diablo, Fanjan and Quabi– all canines contracted to aid the U.S. military in searches for explosives at vehicle checkpoints, military bases, airports and hotels in Iraq–recently arrived in America after being retrieved from a life in retirement spent in solitary dog runs.

Of the seven dogs brought to the U.S. by SPCA International, four are still seeking forever homes. Two of the adoptable dogs– Ivy, an eight-year-old German Shepherd, and Nugget, a lovable Lab whose struggle with epilepsy brought about early retirement– got the opportunity to lap up the limelight on a special edition of the Salute to Troops segment on HLN’S Morning Express with Robin Meade.

If you are interested in adopting one of the four remaining retired service dogs, or would like to make a donation to help SPCA International bring more retired hero dogs to the United States:
