With the terrible weather disasters of the last few weeks, shelters need all the help they can get in the impacted areas. We wanted to pass along some assistance we’ve learned about to help animals in Joplin, Missouri.

American Humane Deploys

American Humane Association has mobilized its  Red Star Animal Emergency Services™ team (which just left the flood in Memphis) to help the animal victims in Joplin. Red Star, which has a nearly century-long legacy of animal relief, is reaching out with critical help and on-the-ground sheltering and support services.

American Humane Association is deploying in Joplin in partnership with the ASPCA. The American Humane Association Red Star team will be assisting the Joplin Humane Society and at the Emergency Animal Shelter.

For more news about the Red Star team’s emergency work during these disasters or to support their efforts to help animals in crisis, please go to www.americanhumane.org.

doggyloot Launches Fundraiser

We wanted to pass along word we received from doggyloot, the deal site for dogs, of a fundraiser underway through Monday, May 30, to support pets displaced by the recent tornadoes in Joplin, Missouri.

The fundraiser will give doggyloot members the opportunity to donate to the Joplin Humane Society to assist in the group’s relief efforts for animals. All proceeds will go directly to the Joplin Humane Society with doggyloot covering the merchant account fees so all the donation goes to help the shelter.

Humane Society of Missouri Deploys

The Humane Society of Missouri has sent a 15-member Disaster Response Team to Joplin to rescue and shelter pets. The HSMO Field Assessment Team will canvass the area searching for and rescuing injured and displaced pets.In conjunction with Joplin Animal Control, the HSMO Sheltering Team will assist in the operation of an animal shelter on the campus of Missouri Southern State University (MSSU). Persons being housed at the shelter at MSSU will be able to place their pets at this animal shelter. The HSMO Sheltering Team also will set up and operate a separate emergency shelter with the capacity to care for several hundred pets of persons who are not being sheltered at MSSU.

At this time, monetary donations are encouraged. Persons wishing to make donations to assist animal rescue efforts can do so at www.hsmo.org.
