A former shelter Spot with silver screen appeal, Cosmo the Jack Russell Terrier tickles funny bones and tugs on heartstrings like a pro in the just-released dramedy Beginners. In celebration of the lovable rescue Rover (whose perky personality inspired his co-star Ewan McGregor to welcome a rescue dog into his family), Focus Features– in conjunction with GOOD magazine– is inviting pet parents to let their own shelter dog’s star quality shine through in the Best in Show Dog Photo Contest.

A canine competition which promotes pet adoption, through June 27, 2011 pet parents can submit a photo of their former shelter dog, along the dog’s name, age and a brief (40 words or less) message explaining how your tail-wagging chum became a integral part of your life.

The entries will be voted on by a panel of judges, which will narrow the field down to 25 photogenic Fidos who will vie for the grand prize in a snapshot showdown voted on by GOOD readers. The top three entrants will receive:

  • A portrait of their pup created by illustrator/Beginners writer and director Mike Mills
  • An autographed copy of the book Drawings from the Film Beginners
  • A Beginners movie poster autographed by actor Ewan McGregor and director Mike Mills
  • The Beginners soundtrack
  • A one-year subscription to GOOD magazine
  • A GOOD T-shirt
