Her portrayal of a vampire may make viewers’ blood run cold, but True Blood star Kristin Bauer van Straten’s actions against the plight of puppy mill dogs warms the hearts of animal lovers.

The actress/animal activist, who recently took part in a Mother’s Day protest with the founder of The Amanda Foundation in an effort to raise awareness of the mother dogs who are forced to produce puppies for the profit of pet stores and backyard breeders, paused for the paws cause in front of a camera for the Animal Legal Defense Fund, an organization which–since its founding in 1979– has given a voice in the legal system to those who cannot speak for themselves.

In a series of “Bites with Kristin Bauer,” the actress shines a spotlight on Tony the Tiger–the Siberian-Bengal tiger who endures the stares of sightseers as a truck stop tourist attraction in Louisiana; animals in the entertainment industry; steps which everyone can take on a day to day basis to help animals, and in the following clip, the ongoing struggle to cease the cycle of puppies bred for the sake of pet store sales.
