As we wait for the final installment of the Harry Potter series to arrive in theaters, we thought we would shine a spotlight on the movie’s stars whose passion for acting is equalled by their compassion for pets. The following is the second in DogTipper’s week-long series:

She may portray villainous Dolores Umbridge in the Harry Potter series, but away from the camera actress Imelda Staunton is a hero to dogs– just ask her canine companion.

Molly has played a starring role in the life of her famous family since the summer of 2006, when she was adopted from The Mayhew Animal Home. The tiny terrier who ran away with the hearts of both Staunton and her husband, actor Jim Carter (who fans of PBS will recognize from such Masterpiece mini-series as Downton Abbey and Cranford) has been credited by her movie star Mom with keeping her family fit with daily outings on Hampstead Heath, where the social Spot meets up with four-legged friends who are also out for walkies with their pet parents.

Grateful for the joy that Molly has brought into their lives, Oscar-nominated Imelda Staunton and Jim Carter have been long-time supporters of The Mayhew Animal Home. The well-respected rescue and humane education center, which has saved the lives of homeless dogs, cats and other domestic animals since 1886, is close to the heart of a number of notables, including many high profile performers known on this side of the pond, such as Ricky Gervais, Joanna Lumley of Absolutely Fabulous fame, Andrew Sachs from the comedy classic Fawlty Towers and Liz Smith, who starred in the beloved British series The Vicar of Dibley and Lark Rise to Candleford.
