A promise to love and cherish offered homeless animals the promise of a brighter future when a pair of reality TV romantics celebrated their wedding reception at a UK rescue site on the season finale of the Channel 4/TLC series My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.

Turned away by 50 different venues due to prejudice, the wedding dress designer/wedding coordinator for a twosome from the traveller community found a sanctuary for the couple’s post-ceremony soiree at Wood Green Animal Shelter, which found forever homes for 2,507 cats and kittens and 1,469 dogs and puppies in 2010.

While the reception shown on My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding was held at the Godmanchester Centre, Wood Green Animal Shelter center’s are also located in Heydon and London. Open seven days a week, the 52-acre site provides a caring environment for all creatures great and small, whose lives benefit from the proceeds generated from public functions such as civil wedding ceremonies and receptions.
