Television viewers may know her for her on-screen role as Senior Detective Alexandra Eames on the hit series Law & Order: Criminal Intent, but dog devotees and fans of felines recognize actress Kathryn Erbe for her off-screen role in animal rescue.

A spokesperson for North Shore Animal League America as well as a pet parent to two tail-waggers adopted from the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization, on August 1, 2011 the small screen star (accompanied by her canine companions Lilah and Tallulah) joined NSALA’s President J. John Stevenson at a press conference to promote World Mutt-i-grees® Rescue Day, the kick off of a month-long mission to shine a spotlight on the 8 – 10 million dogs and cats who find themselves in shelters each year.

Throughout the month of August, North Shore Animal League America is asking people who are passionate about pets to spread the word about World Mutt-i-grees® Rescue Month through social media. DogTipper’s piece regarding Beth Ostrosky’s PSA to promote the kick off of World Mutt-i-grees® Month provides information about the movement’s mission and how you can help.

Over the years the Law & Order: Criminal Intent star, who recently received NSALA’s Mutt-i-grees Advocacy Award, has taped three PSAs to promote shelter adoption, including this cute clip which co-stars Erbe’s barking buddy Lilah and her new puppet pal:
