At concerts audiences cheer for Johnny Van Zant’s rendition of “Sweet Home Alabama,” and on October 8, 2011 animal lovers will applaud the Lynyrd Skynyrd frontman for his philanthropic efforts as he helps the orphaned pets at a no-kill shelter in Florida who are waiting for a home sweet home.

The Southern rock icon–who recently sponsored a Southeastern Guide Dog Golden Retriever/Labrador Retriever mix who now assists visually impaired actor Steve Gladstone– will step away from the mic and into his role as the honorary chairman for Safe Animal Shelter’s 19th Annual Dinner and Auction, The Clay County Leader’s Clay Today online reports.

Dubbed Rock ‘n Roll 4 Rescues, fans of Fidos and felines will converge on the Thrasher-Home Conference Center in Orange Park, Florida for the fundraiser.

Ticket price: $50 per person
