Update 9/10: We’ve added info on free pet boarding, pet food for evacuees, and more lost and found resources.

Update 9/9: We’ve added new resources for Lost & Found Pets and Injured Pets.

Since late yesterday, we’ve been on Twitter just about nonstop, retweeting info related to pets and livestock that are impacted by the wildfires in our central Texas area. We wanted to bring together some of the resources in one place for everyone who isn’t on Twitter or who needs a central place to check for information. Please verify information before going to location whenever possible. We will add to this page as we find additional information or retweet info from shelters and rescues.

Do you have any more information about pets being rescued in Steiner Ranch? My brother and sister in law have talked to several police officers and the Red Cross and they can’t find anyone to take them in to get their dog.

They weren’t at home when Steiner Ranch was evacuated, so their dog has been there without anyone.

The only thing I have heard is to check with the Red Cross but I did hear that the Vandegrift school shelter has info on pets. Austin Pets Alive has a lost and found list of animals that have been found due to the fire, too, if they somehow got loose. I’ll keep checking…best of luck to your brother and sister law!!

Are people able to get their pets? I’m so sad thinking about the puppies who are stuck in their home, possibly in a kennel, with no food, water, or people to be with them.

Even if the fire doesn’t get their house, some puppies might dehydrate, and they’re probably all freaking out. (I would freak out!) :`(

  • http://www.sweetestpuppy.org Cody the Puppy

I hope the puppy is OK. The news said that firefighters aren’t rescuing pets, but the puppies need food and water even if their house is safe. I hope they all do OK and that officials let people get their pups soon!

It’s so, so sad; right now people aren’t able to get into Steiner Ranch to get pets. I’ve heard on TV that some may be allowed in today. That fire is somewhat contained now; the Bastrop fire, now 30,000 acres, is not contained. It’s just heartbreaking…

Thank you so much, Kim; that could make a world of difference for some animal lovers!

Thank you, Terri! I saw some accounts yesterday of emergency burns (I think horses, though). Right now so many people who were away from home when the fires broke out just don’t know about their pets yet because they’re not allowed back in. So, so sad…
