While he is best known for befriending a bear in the 70s series The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams, actor Dan Haggerty showed his love for all creatures great and small when he participated in the 6th annual Collars and Chrome Pet Adoption and Poker Run on September 17, 2011.
Like the iconic character for which he is known, Haggerty communed with nature as he rode for a paws cause with fellow motorcyclists on a scenic journey through several Montana communities. A chopper enthusiast who built the bikes seen in the landmark movie Easy Rider, the actor told Billings station KTVQ that he participates in a number of events “and you meet a lot of wonderful people on two wheels, so animals, kids, people, bikes, whatever it takes to keep everyone happy, I’m involved with doing a little bit of everything.”
The event, which also included a silent auction, advice from pet trainers and booths brimming with pet-related merchandise, benefited an array of animal-related charities, among them Billings Animal Rescue Kare (B.A.R.K), The Rimrock Humane Society, Run for Adoption Inc. (an organization which finds forever homes for retired racing greyhounds) and the Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter.
