Mya To Run Marathon for Homeless Pets

From her sizzling performance in the movie Chicago to her Grammy-winning music, multi-talented entertainer Mya has always made the hearts of fans beat a little faster, and on November 6, 2011 the runner-up on the ninth season of Dancing with the Stars will leave dog devotees and friends of felines breathless as she takes part in the ING NYC Marathon on behalf of North Shore Animal League America.

Mya has joined Team Animal League to raise funds for the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization’s continued efforts to find forever homes for almost 20,000 animals each year. Animal lovers can become part of the pack by running with the actress/singer in support of Animal League, or by making a donation to either an individual runner or to Team Animal League in general.

Get Your Licks on Route 66

The proud parent to a plethora of pets, including Mellow– a cat adopted from North Shore– Mya has frequently used her star wattage to shine a spotlight on NSALA. The official spokesperson for North Shore Animal League America’s 2010 Tour of Life cross-country adoption drive, in recent months Mya has helped to highlight the adorable adoptables outside of the famed Algonquin Hotel during Matilda’s birthday party, and kicked off Get Your Licks on Route 66, a national pet adoption tour presented by NSALA and FIDO Friendly magazine.

Embarking on an orphan pet awareness campaign on August 31, 2011 in Port Washington, New York, the Animal League Mobile Rescue and Adoption Unit will visit 12 cities in Arizona, California, Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kentucky and Illinois, while a second mobile unit, in partnership with National Mill Dog Rescue, will travel to an additional five cities in the US before a final Mutt-i-grees Mania celebration in New York City on September 25,2011.
