Gearing up for the start of their All Fired Up tour, all girl Brit band The Saturdays showed dog devotees that they’re also all fired up about the opportunity to shine a spotlight on proper pet parenting as they launched Dog Trust’s ‘A Dog is Not a Toy’ campaign. As all of the band mates have barking buddies for best mates (including Una Healy–Mom to a terrier/pug dubbed Jackson after the late King of Pop– who shared a photo of her day at Dogs Trust with fans on Twitter) the group quickly bonded with the adorable adoptable baby Border Collies who posed with them for promotion pictures.
Joining forces with Nintendo, Dogs Trust– the UK’s largest dog welfare organization with 17 rehoming centers– hopes the initiative will help to end the trend of looking upon pets as disposable fashion accessories.
Reaching out to children through technology to stop the cycle of irresponsibility, Dogs Trust educators are now using Nintendogs & Cats from Nintendo as an instructional tool to demonstrate commitment to, and compassion and care for, canines and kitties. Through the game, children can learn how to groom, feed and play with a 3D pet– lessons they will put into action when adopting a real dog.
Children between the ages of 7 and 11 living in the UK can also show their love for Spots by creating a poster promoting the A Dog is Not a Toy campaign for Dog Trust’s Junior Canine Carer competition. The Saturdays will select the five winners, who will get a behind the scenes look at one of Dogs Trusts rehoming centers, a Nintendo 3DS console, a Nintendogs + Cats game and a personalized Dogs Trust t-shirt.
