From pets in peril in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to the animals affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Anderson Cooper has long been a champion of paws causes on his CNN series Anderson Cooper 360. On October 7, 2011 the Emmy Award-winning television journalist turned the cameras on the lighter side of his fascination with our furry friends during an hour-long Pet Extravaganza, which aired on his new daytime talk show.

Offering a peek inside his private life, the lauded journalist introduced a studio audience of animal lovers to Molly, his Welsh Springer Spaniel, who seems to have decided to leave the limelight to her famous Father:

The episode also included a visit from the queen of canine comportment, It’s Me or the Dog‘s Victoria Stilwell, who instructed the TV icon on the proper way to care for a canine’s pearly whites; a segment with the cast members of Doggie Moms and a touching new start in life for a puppy mill rescue dog who– thanks to Anderson Cooper and North Shore Animal League America– now has a happy home with a little girl who had been craving the companionship of a canine.
