The British celebrities in attendance at the seventh annual Chiswick House Gardens Dog Show have shared screen time with such stars as Julia Roberts, Hugh Grant and David Tennant, but on September 25, 2011 the actors were happy to play supporting roles to an array of Rovers who enjoyed the applause of admirers as they posed and played for a canine-loving crowd.

Held on the cricket pitch at Chiswick House Gardens, the event– which raises funds for dog-related projects within the gardens of Chiswick House and Gardens Trust– commenced with a proclamation by Maureen Lipman. The actress, who sci-fi fans will recognize as The Wire from an episode of Doctor Who, has a strong connection with Diva, her barking Basenji buddy, who helped to heal her heartbreak after the death of her husband.  The celebrity’s Spot showed her skills to sightseers during a Capable Canines demonstration.

Actor James Dreyfus, who starred in the romantic dramedy Notting Hill, chose the most talented tail-wagger in the Best Trick category, while JoAnne Good and Anna Webb, who broadcast their passion for pets on the BBC radio program Barking at the Moon, had the coveted task of determining the Best Puppy under 12 months old, Best Youngster ages 1 to 2 and the canine with the cutest couture in the Fancy Dress competition.

At the end of the day, the true star of the Spot-centric show was Jack, who garnered the day’s top title, Best in Show. The three-year-old Border Collie mix has gone from the streets of Moscow to Easy Street thanks to his pet parent Yulia Titovets, who fell in love with with the rescue Rover when she saw his face on a shelter website.
