Surf Dog Ricochet is usually seen hanging 20 on the waves, but on October 1, 2011 the philanthropic Fido was spotted hanging out with Hollywood heavyweights at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills for the American Humane Association’s first annual Hero Dog Awards, presented by CESAR Canine Cuisine, which is helping the canine cause by donating $1 for each Facebook “like” they receive to the American Humane Association in support of therapy dogs.

Although a plethora of paparazzi magnets were in attendance, stars such as Orlando Brown (former That’s So Raven cast member and current National Ambassador for the American Humane Association), True Blood‘s Michelle Forbes, current Dancing with the Stars competitor (and Hero Dog Awards host) Carson Kressley and his dance floor partner Anna Trubanskaya, silver screen icon Peter Fonda, Sex and the City‘s Jason Lewis, and animal-loving legend Betty White all took on supporting roles as cameras clicked for the evening’s top dogs– the event’s tail-wagging award recipients, which included Ricochet, who ruled the red carpet with Victoria Stilwell of It’s Me or the Dog fame.

Praised for her “paw it forward” mission in life, actor Joey Lawrence presented Ricochet with the Emerging Hero Dog Award to the cowabunga canine, who discovered that her surfing skills present a golden opportunity to help others.

Receiving a Hero Dog sculpture (a trophy created by Liza Todd Burton, the daughter of the late Tinseltown great Elizabeth Taylor) and a $5,000 donation to designated American Humane Association charity partner Pine Street Foundation (which focuses on canine cancer detection), Ricochet’s pet parent Judy Fridono spoke on behalf of the celebrated Spot, stating: “We are so grateful to the American Humane Association for giving us this incredible platform to raise awareness of Ricochet’s causes, she’s raised over $125,00 for humans and animals in need, and this opportunity will allow us to help many others…”

Fans of Fidos and famous faces can watch all the excitement when the Hallmark Channel airs the first annual Hero Dog Awards on November 11, 2011.
