Over the course of his career Kevin Bacon has garnered both a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award, and now the pop culture icon has won the hearts of dog devotees for his devotion to his canine companion.

Paulie, a rescue Rover who has been jokingly dubbed a “Labrador deceiver” by his movie star Mom, actress Kyra Sedwick, returned home from surgery on November 8th, and after two days of rest Kevin Bacon was happy to report to fans that his barking buddy is once again “bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.”

Paulie is recuperating in a home willed with a passel of four-pawed pals and pet parents who are passionate about compassion for animals. In the wake of hurricane Katrina the stars of Footloose and The Closer were among those who volunteered with Animal Rescue New Orleans, a non-profit grassroots organization which promotes the rescue, spay/neutering and rehoming of companion animals in the greater New Orleans area. Touched by the heart-breaking scenes at a makeshift shelter, Kevin Bacon would go on to narrate New Orleans Animal Rescue, an 84-minute look at pets whose lives were forever changed due to the natural disaster.

The big-hearted big screen star continues to help non-profits in need through the charitable social network SixDegrees.org.
