George Clooney Talks About His Shelter Dog

As one of the world’s most beautiful people, George Clooney may be accustomed to admirers falling at his feet, but when the movie star fell head over heels for a shelter dog his fear of possible rejection prompted the paparazzi magnet to secure a place in the pup’s heart by literally offering the dog a taste of the good life.

Einstein, Clooney’s four-pawed pal for the past year and a half, poses with his Poppa for the pages of Esquire magazine’s January issue, where the star of The Descendants tells the tale of his tail-wagging chum:

“So I go online and see Einstein. They had a whole film about him. It was actually really sweet. You see him all beat up in the shelter, and they show how they cleaned him up. So I called and said, ‘I like Einstein!’ The woman goes, ‘Well, we don’t know if Einstein will like you.’ ‘Well, can I meet with Einstein?’ She says, ‘Yes, we’ll bring him to your house, but if he doesn’t like you, he can’t stay. We have to have good homes for these dogs.’ She sounded very serious.”

Scenting his shoes with turkey meatballs for their first meeting, the dog instantly bonded with his new high profile pet parent, licking the feet which he now happily follows everywhere.
