Limited Recall: 1 Lot of Iams ProActive Health Smart Puppy Original Dry Food

We’ve received word of a limited recall of one lot of Iams ProActive Health Smart Puppy Original dry food. The food, which was sold on the East Coast, has already been pulled from shelves.

The food is being recalled because it was above the acceptable limit for aflatoxin.

Iams has not received any reports of illness connected to this product.

Only one production lot and code date are impacted by this announcement; no other Iams or Eukanuba foods are included in this recall.

How to Determine If You Have Food That’s Recalled

Here’s the easiest way to figure out if you have recalled food:

• The recalled food is dry Iams ProActive Health Smart Puppy Original. No other Iams or Eukanuba, cat or dog products are part of this recall.

• The recalled food was sold only by retailers located in the eastern region of the United States (AL, CT, DE, FL, GA, LA, MD, ME, MS, NC, NH, NJ, NY, PA, SC, VA) after October 5, 2011. No other regions of the United States or Canada are affected by this recall.

• The code date on the package matches one of the 5 code dates listed. Look at the very top of the package for two lines of numbers. If you have affected product, the second line on your product will read:  12794177 or 12784177.

The product has already been removed from store shelves. As a precaution, Iams also decided to remove other product lots that were produced just before and after the single lot of Smart Puppy Original.
