A champion in the wrestling ring, today Hulk Hogan is a champion of a breed bullied by prejudice on both sides of the pond.
A proud Poppa to four Chihuahuas, the sports star/reality personality recently paid a visit to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home– a renowned animal welfare organization in England which cares for more than 10,600 dogs and cats each year– where he gave a big bear hug to Marcel, a 10-year-old Staffordshire Terrier who has called the rescue home since the passing of his pet parent in November 2011.
Hulk Hogan said: “It’s not too often that I reveal my soft side, but I have to admit that I have a soft spot for dogs like Marcel. I hope that more people will get to know Staffies for the great dogs they really are. Staffies really are softer than you think and don’t deserve the tough fighting image they have been tarnished with.”
Battersea Dogs and Cats Home is trying to reverse the wrongful image of Staffordshire Terriers through their campaign “Staffies. They’re Softer than You Think.” On the organization’s website people who are wrestling with the decision of whether to welcome a Staffordshire Terrier into their life can view videos which show their loving nature, pick up a pattern to make a knitted Staffie toy and register to rehome one of the dogs who are waiting for their forever family.
