Hours before the season premiere of her Starz! series Spartacus: Vengeance, actress Lucy Lawless helped an adorable adoptable from Best Friends Animal Society make his small screen debut on the set of Access Hollywood during the entertainment news program’s monthly pet adoption spotlight.
The former star of Xena: Warrior Princess introduced viewers to Billy Elliot, a 6-month-old West Highland Terrier/Schnauzer mix who is ready to waltz into the life of a pet parent after recovering from a leg injury which would have led to euthanization if not for the help of actress Denise Richards, a longtime supporter of Best Friends Animal Society. Access Hollywood reports that Billy Elliot will receive a new Better Buddies dog bed when he finds a family to love. Co-created by General Hospital cast member Julie Berman, 10% of the proceeds from Better Buddies pet beds are donated to Best Friends Animal Society’s Guardian Angel program.
The actress is just the latest in a long line of luminaries who have taken the time to stop by Access Hollywood to shine a spotlight on Fidos and felines in need of homes. In recent months Grey’s Anatomy star Kevin McKidd and former Charmed star Rose McGowan have both played a part in helping adoptable dogs win starring roles in a forever family.
