Over the course of her career Celeste Holm has captured the imagination of film buffs in such classics as High Society, All About Eve and Gentleman’s Agreement, and the silver screen legend has captured the hearts of animal lovers for shining a spotlight on the Angel on a Leash Foundation.
At 95 years young, the acclaimed actress’s love of both the silver screen and Spots remains strong. Soon to appear in her 27th movie College Debts, last year the star– who stepped up to the podium in 1947 to receive an Academy Award– strolled the catwalk with her rescue Rover Barker at the first annual New Yorkie Runway, a doggie fashion show featuring FidosĀ and famous faces that raises funds for the non-profit, which creates therapy dog programs for hospitals and institutions.
The movie icon’s passion for the compassionate organization prompted the star to take on the role of host at the recent celebration of the launch of “Angel on a Leash,” a book authored by David Frei (the voice of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show), which focuses on the foundation’s efforts.
Among the celebrities who mingled with the movie star and her high-profile pup at her Central Park West apartment were former M*A*S*H star/animal welfare advocate Loretta Swit and famed meteorologist Ron Trotta with his canine companion, Schmitty The Weather Dog.
Tickets for the second annual New Yorkie Runway presentation, which will take place February 10, 2012 at The New Yorker Hotel, are now on sale.
