Uggie to Announce Nominees for Golden Collar Awards

Hollywood’s awards season is in full swing, and while film fans are anxiously awaiting the red carpet arrivals of today’s top stars at the Golden Globes, fans of Fidos will soon get to cheer for celebrity Spots in the spotlight at Dog News Daily‘s 1st Annual Golden Collar Awards.

At 8 a.m. on January 18, 2012 reporters will gather at L.A.’s prestigious Rover retreat The D Pet Hotel as nominations for the best achievement in acting by dogs in both film and television are announced by actress Penelope Ann Miller and her canine co-star Uggie from the Fido-friendly flick The Artist.

Tinseltown tail-waggers are keeping their paws crossed that their names will be called out when nominations are read for the following categories:

  • Best Dog in a Theatrical Film
  • Best Dog in a Foreign Film
  • Best Dog in a Direct-to-DVD Film
  • Best Dog in a Reality TV Series
  • Best Dog in a TV Series

The names of the recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award and Humanitarian Award (which will be presented to a person with a passion for helping pooches) will also be announced during the press conference.

The Golden Collar Awards will be determined by a panel of judges, including include Pete Hammond, Awards Columnist/Deadline Hollywood; George Pennachio, Entertainment Reporter, for ABC7 Eyewitness News; Leo Quinones, Host of KFWB’s Movie Talk Show; Hollywood Foreign Press Association members, Lilly Liu, journalist for Apple Daily (Hong Kong) and Vera Anderson, journalist for Cine Premiere magazine, (Mexico); Elizabeth Snead, Contributing Editor, The Hollywood Reporter; Wendy Burch, Weekend Anchor of the KTLA Morning News; and Linda Bell Blue, Executive Producer of Entertainment Tonight.

The 1st Annual Golden Collar Awards will take place on February 13, 2012 at 6 pm. PT at The Hotel Palomar in Westwood/Los Angeles, a dog-friendly Kimpton Hotel. A happening with heart, prior to the presentation canines and their high-profile human companions will walk the red carpet and drink toasts to talented tail-waggers at a private reception benefiting Los Angeles area dog rescue organizations and shelters.
