Hoping to earn coveted spots in the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge, 108 shelters from across the country are asking for animal lovers’ votes during a two-week qualifying heat that will determine this year’s contenders.
Through April 16, 2012, fans of Fidos and felines over the age of 13 can visit www.votetosavelives.org to show their support for a favorite shelter. Simply choose the agency from a list provided on the site, click Vote Today on that agency’s page and submit your email address. (You are allowed to vote once a day. Your first vote must be verified by email.)
Fifty shelters (five from each division and 25 which garner “best of the rest” positions in the qualifying heat) will become contestants in the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge, vying to win vital funds by inventing innovative ways to engage their communities and finding at least 300 more forever families for homeless pets during the months of August, September and October 2012 than they did during the same time period in 2011.
The shelter which achieves the greatest increase in lives saved during the three-month time span will receive a $100,000 grand prize from the ASPCA and Rachael Ray, while the shelter in second place will win $25,000. The contestant that does the best job of getting their community involved in the paws cause will also win $25,000. Those organizations that do the best in their divisions will be eligible for between $5,000 and $40,000 in additional grants.
