Each week on The History Channel’s hit series American Pickers Mike Wolfe looks past the initial perception of a rusted vintage bicycle or a dusty jukebox and sees each antique for its potential to be a treasured classic. In a new PSA for Last Chance for Animals, the reality TV personality urges pet parents to do likewise and see the true beauty of shelter animals when searching for a furry family member.
Looked upon by some as ‘second-hand’ or ‘flawed’ because they were thoughtlessly discarded by a previous guardian or found on the streets, each year four million companion animals lose their lives in kill shelters as people continue to purchase dogs at pet shops or through a backyard breeders.
Shelters are also filled with senior animals who were abandoned by their families after offering years of friendship. One such dog is Bentley, the St. Bernard who has gone from facing a sad fate in a kill shelter to becoming the face of Last Chance for Animals’ latest Adopt Don’t Shop campaign. Just 15 minutes away from being euthanized when he was adopted, today Bentley is enjoying his golden years with a loving forever family.
Mike Wolfe is just the latest in a long line of luminaries who have joined forces with Last Chance for Animals, a non-profit organization which has defended the rights of our furry, finned and feathered friends for more than three decades.
