She may be best known to Fido-loving Anglophiles as Mrs. Patmore, the head cook for the Crawley family on Downton Abbey, but six months ago actress Lesley Nicol accepted a real life, Rover-related role that’s just her cup of tea.
A dog devotee with two tail-wagging chums named Bertie and Freddie (who often star in snapshots in their famous mother’s Twitter posts,) the actress was keen to become the celebrity ambassador for Medical Detection Dogs, a UK charity which trains assistance canines to recognize changes in the conditions of their health-compromised guardians.
During a recent visit to the organization, Lesley Nicol came face to face with a young miniature Poodle who has been dubbed with a familiar moniker in honor of the actress/ambassador. Patmore (seen with the star in the photo below) will begin advanced training when she is one year old.

Talking to the Bicester Advertiser and Review about Medical Detection Dogs’ efforts, the star stated: “I completely believe in what they’re doing. You talk to any of the people who have these dogs and they’ll tell you it’s life-changing.
“But there’s a waiting list. There’s an urgent need for more money to train more dogs.”
