His fancy footwork may have landed him a fifth place finish on Dancing with the Stars season five, but by planting his ‘dogs’ on a surf board alongside a totally pawsome partner at the 7th annual Loews Surf Dog Competition at Imperial Beach actor Cameron Mathison won the hearts of animal lovers.
Riding a wave of enthusiasm, the former All My Children star– who had only been on a surf board three times– and famous cowabunga canine Ricochet surfed their way to a second place finish in the tandem category, an event in which Ricochet also showed off her skills with other buddies on her board– Gigi, Nani, Louie and Mookie.
Ricochet was also The Big Kahuna in the large dog category, with her tail-first moves earning her first place, and the talented tail-wagger was honored to be among the stoked Spots who earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for 17 dogs surfing on one board.
A hot-dogging happening with heart, the 7th Annual Loews Surf Dog Competition raised more than $10,000 for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Ricochet is the ASPCA’s current Dog of the Year, and was awarded this title for raising more than $163,000 for human/animal causes, and surfing with people with disabilities, kids with special needs, and wounded warriors as an assistive aid.
Famous for her philanthropic work, SURFice dog Ricochet has more than 100K Facebook fans. To keep up with the surf-riding Rover:
