“Play ball!” Taking the umpire’s yell to a whole other level, Hollywood’s top dog Uggie’s ceremonial first pitch at Petco Park prior to the Padres game against the Houston Astros was also a ‘pitch’ for the option of pet adoption.
Held July 17th, the Padres’ eighth annual Dog Days of Summer event was not only a chance for hundreds of baseball buffs and their barking buddies to enjoy a “tail”gate party complete with a costume contest, photo booth and a parade led by the dog star of the Academy Award-winning motion picture The Artist, it was also an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the Spots from area shelters or rescue organizations who hope to score a home run in the hearts of pet parents during each Padres’ Sunday home game thanks to Petco.
In the coming weeks sports lovers can meet their own MVP (Most Valuable Pooch) from the following animal rescue groups at Petco Park:
July 22nd– San Diego Labrador Rescuers
August 5th– Chula Vista Animal Care Facility
August 19th– Helen Woodward Animal Center
September 9th– El Cajon Animal Shelter
September 16th– Chihuahua Rescue of San Diego
September 30th– Escondido Humane Society
