Enjoying a golden opportunity to celebrate Dogs for the Deaf’s 35th anniversary, perennial ‘Golden Girl’ Betty White recently stepped into the role of host at a glitterati-filled gala, Hooray for HollyWOOF.
A long-time member of the organization’s advisory board, Betty White stated; “I’m sure you know how much I LOVE dogs, so you can imagine how excited I was to be asked to be the Celebrity Hostess for the 35th Anniversary celebration for Dogs for the Deaf. This is truly a win/win organization. They rescue dogs from shelters and train them to help people with a variety of disabilities–the dogs are saved and then they go on to enhance and even save the lives of the people they are helping.”
Switched at Birth stars Lea Thompson and Constance Marie; Animal Planet personality Jackson Galaxy; model/star of The Real Housewives of Miami Joanna Krupa; actress/Animal Rescue Corps Director of Marketing and Public Relations Elaine Hendrix and Shannon Tweed from Gene Simmons’ Family Jewels were among the animal-loving luminaries at the luncheon, which took place August 4th at Sportsmen’s Lodge in Sherman Oaks, California.
While the event raised funds for Dogs for the Deaf, the organization shared the philanthropic fervor of the evening with a silent auction which benefited Generation Rescue, Jenny McCarthy’s non-profit which offers resources for families affected by autism.
Thanks to the nonprofit’s PSA, which features Academy Award winner Marlee Matlin, Dogs For the Deaf is currently in the running to receive a $10,000 grant from Purina ONE beyOnd as an entrant in Purina’s Shine a Light on a Shelter Contest, which ends August 20th.
