Annie’s Search for Sandy Premieres Oct. 27

“Tomorrow, tomorrow/I love ya, tomorrow”…more than the lyrics from a beloved Broadway tune, the words also echo the sentiment of dog devotees who only have to wait one more day for the television premiere of Annie’s Search for Sandy.

Hosted by Al Roker, the 30-minute special follows Tony Award-winning animal trainer Bill Berloni as he continues the hit musical ANNIE‘s commitment to cast a shelter canine for the role of the orphan’s faithful Fido, Sandy– a tradition which began with Broadway’s first Sandy in 1977.

Already performing in previews, when the curtain rises on ANNIE‘s official premiere at The Palace Theater in New York City on November 8th, a dog who once led a hard knock life will step into the limelight.

Once a resident at the Houston shelter BARC, Sunny was less than two days away from death when she was discovered by trainer Berloni. The two-year-old terrier mix’s understudy Casey is also a former shelter dog who was saved from a Nashville-area pound.

Thanks to Pedigree’s “See the Show, Help a Dog” initiative, for each ANNIE The Musical ticket purchased through December 31, 2013 Pedigree will donate $2 (up to $1 million total) to the Pedigree Foundation, a non-profit organization which provides grants to shelters and rescue groups.

Oh I want to see this! I interviewed Bill Berloni and wrote a story with him for Guideposts magazine. He is so in tune to dogs, and cares about them. All the dogs he trains for Broadway shows come from shelters. Way to go, Bill and Sandy!

We really wanted to see this but it got preempted in NY due to Hurricane Sandy (ironically). Are their plans to reschedule? (I hope)
