John Barrowman Hosts Hearing Dog Awards 2012

Fans know him as Captain Jack Harkness in the sci-fi series Torchwood and Doctor Who and will soon be introduced to his character on the new CW hit Arrow, but on October 18th the animal-loving luminary stepped into the role of host, using his star wattage to shine a spotlight on service dogs at the Specsavers Hearing Dog Awards 2012.

A proud pet parent to three rescue Rovers, Barrowman quickly bonded with the pups at the presentation, which annually applauds the efforts of dogs trained by Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, a UK charity which is celebrating its 30th year of of pairing people with hearing impairment with a canine who provides independence, confidence and companionship.


Among the accolades handed out at the event was the Heroic Partnership Award. The following clip introduces viewers to winners Jan Lambert and her dog Marti, who saved his guardian from a fire, and runners up Stephen Beal and his faithful Fido, Yogi:
