This week on Tracie Hotchner’s weekly DOG TALK® radio show and podcast
- A Show Dedicated to Decisions Around End of Life Issues for Pets. Bioethicist Jessica Pierce wrote a tender op-ed piece in the New York Times about managing the end of her beloved dog’s life, which Tracie discusses with her, and Jessica’s book on which the op-ed is based, THE LAST WALK: Reflections on Our Pets at the End of Their Lives. Jessica refers to the unique system of evaluating your pets deteriorating condition at the end of life which was devised by Dr. Alice Villalobos, the Official Oncologist of DOG TALK®, who is a highly regarded oncologist around the world in her field. Dr. Alice is President of the Society for Veterinary Medical Ethics and Director of the Animal Oncology Consultation Service where she coined the phrase “pawspice” to help people cope with their pet’s end of life period that is comparable to human “hospice.” Tracie and Dr. Alice discuss what this means and how to apply it to individual situations.
- THIS WEEK’S FEATURE: Dr. Elsey’s Precious Cat litter is running a coupon on their website which gives you $3 off the 40-pound bag of Precious Cat Ultra litter. The purchase will benefit the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, which funds research into developing new drugs, which they bring to market very quickly. Much of the research they do not only benefits Multiple Myeloma but many other cancers, including those that affect dogs and cats. Dr. Elsey’s wife suffers from the disease and they have already raised 4 million dollars for this much-needed research — all the kitties can help if everyone grabs a coupon and buys bag!
