From her days on Laugh-In to her recent stint on the ABC comedy Malibu Country, Lily Tomlin has tickled our funny bones over the course of her comedic career– and as an animal advocate, she’s touched our hearts.
Following in the footsteps of fellow philanthropic funny lady Betty White, who was honored at last year’s event, on May 18th the Emmy, Tony and Grammy Award winner was presented with the Petco Foundation‘s HOPE Award at the Hope Gala in recognition of the entertainment icon’s efforts to create a better future for both animals and people.
Held at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront, the event raised funds for two of Tomlin’s favorite charitable organizations, Actors and Others for Animals— a non-profit which has helped homeless animals since 1971 (which is currently helmed by President Jo Anne Worley, another alum of Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In) and the Performing Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), which rescues and provides a safe have for exotic performing animals who have been abused, abandoned or neglected.
