Putting a song in the hearts of animal lovers, three Broadway stars have stepped up to help pets in need by stepping up to the mic to record a song which is raising funds for two rescue organizations.
Penned by award winner June Rachelson-Ospa with music by composer/director Daniel Neiden, the single “Voiceless” features the moving musical musings of Ann Crumb (a Tony nominee for her role in Anna Karinina), Judy McLane (star of the Broadway smash Mamma Mia!) and Olga Merediz (Tony nominee for her portrayal of Claudia in In the Heights).
The need to speak up in song for the sake of pets in peril struck a chord in the hearts of all three performers, each of whom has used their star wattage over the course of their careers to shine a spotlight on paws causes. Broadway World reports that in December 2009 Ann Crumb was instrumental in the rescue of more than 50 dogs who were facing their fate in kill shelters in the Midwest; multi-cat Mom Judy McLane is a spokesperson for Sean Casey Animal Rescue and recently helped to promote the option of adoption at Broadway Barks; and Olga Merediz has tapped into her talent to help with several fundraisers, including Broadway Unleashed.
