The Bucks Free Press reports that Colin Baker– a multi-pet parent who starred as The Doctor from 1984 through 1986– stepped into his role as a patron of Stokenchurch Dog Rescue when he happily donated his recent £3,700 winnings from his appearance on a celebrity edition of the TV quiz show Tipping Point- Lucky Stars to the charitable organization which had rescued his canine companion, a greyhound named Susie.
The animal-loving actor is one of many former Doctor Who stars who have shown their support for paws causes over the years. Catherine Tate, who portrayed the 10th Doctor’s companion Donna Noble, has helped Battersea Dogs & Cats Home; John Barrowman (aka Captain Jack Harkness) is a patron of Dogs Trust, and David Tennant, the 10th Time Lord, provided the voiceover for a Scottish SPCA PSA.
Located in Buckinghamshire, England, Stokenchurch Dog Rescue has been finding forever homes for approximately 40 dogs each month during this 50th anniversary year.
