Bernadette Peters Receives Champion of Animals Award

Over the course of her career she’s garnered Grammys, Golden Globes and Tony Awards, and on August 17th entertainment icon Bernadette Peters received the Champion of Animals Award for her tireless efforts to help homeless dogs and cats land starring roles in the lives of loving pet parents.

More than 400 friends of Fidos and felines applauded the animal-loving luminary as the accolade was presented to Peters by animal advocate Beth Ostrosky Stern (host of the Nat Geo Wild series Spoiled Rotten Pets) at the Bow Wow Meow Ball, an annual fundraiser– emceed this year by TV legend Dick Cavett– on the grounds of the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons adoption center in Wainscott, New York.

The evening, which included dinner, dancing and adorable adoptables, raised $500,000 for the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons (ARF). Established in 1974, each year the organization finds forever homes for more than 1,000 dogs and cats, many of whom were facing their fate in high kill animal control centers or rescued from puppy mills.

In the following video Cognac Wellerlane, entertainment columnist for the Long Island Exchange, interviews Bernadette Peters (the co-founder of Broadway Barks) at the Bow Wow Meow Ball:
